Academic Time: IEEE NOMS

I didn't get to go to the IEEE NOMS conference in Maui myself, but Chia-Chi Teng went for me, presenting a poster of my thesis work.

This was the hardest bit of writing I've had to do, since the burnout of the actual thesis really set in last fall, and they wanted my 100-ish pages of thesis squeezed down to 8.  I am grateful that Chia-Chi and Barry, my two co-authors, pushed and supported so that it was finished for the conference.

As a follow-on shocker, we received an interesting follow-up message from the NOMS conference coordinators at the end of April:
"After the occurrence of NOMS 2012 last week, we are contacting you to
provide you with an opportunity to let us know why you were not there to
present your work. You should be aware that to be published in the IEEE
NOMS Conference Proceedings and IEEE Xplore®, an author of an accepted
paper is required to register for the conference at the full (member or
non-member) rate and *the paper must be presented at the conference*.
Please reply to all recipients of this message /asap (up to Monday,
April 30 2012)/. Your paper will NOT be published in IEEE Xplore®,
unless you have a proper justification. "

Chia-Chi arrived late to the conference and didn't sign up somewhere, even though he was there and presented as required.  Luckily, he was able to get them the information they needed -- just last night I receive.  Since I didn't get to Maui myself, the Xplore publication was the main benefit I receive from the work that went into this conference.

Thank goodness this conference is done
