One of the best ways of jogging my memory is to look at photos from a particular time. Those usually bring out a flood of associated memories that were previously hidden somewhere in my mind. Here are some 2023 photos from walks, hikes, and train rides in in Utah, travel to Oregon, local fairs, etc.

I'm a little aghast at how long it has been since I last posted. I felt, two and a half years ago, that Weebly/Square would probably yank the site out from under me, but that has not happened. Of course, more than that, life has gotten in the way. A lot has gone on over the last couple of years: Both of my in-laws passed last year. My son graduated with a master's in mathematics and then came home for a gap year (to be with my father-in-law after my mother-in-law passed)...and then struggled to find a job. One daughter was laid off at one company and found another job, after a rather long job search. Another daughter went through a divorce (and a lot of nastiness leading up to it and out from it). I've been serving as board president for Family Haven, a non-profit focused on prevention and treating childhood trauma and abuse. And, of course, I have continued to manage an amazing (but occasionally struggling) team at Adobe, even as the sea change of AI has hit the organization. I have some things to say, now that I have started processing through things. Some of those things might be worth saying in a public(-ish) forum like this. For now, I want to catch up on some of the beauties and activities of 2023, the year of my last post. One of the best ways of jogging my memory is to look at photos from a particular time. This is a photo of the Utah Premier Brass playing a concert at North Park in Provo. The park was so crowded that we ended up sitting on the other side of a fence. We could hear just fine, and it was a beautiful Sunday evening in June. The sun shining on the fence made it difficult to see the band, but the patterns made by the fence were amazing in their own right. That's a fairly good analog to my memories of the last few years. Lots of things have not been clear, but, upon careful reflection and perspective-checking, a great many things have been beautiful in unexpected ways. Life is like that--often unclear, sometimes painfully so, but also filled with unexpected beauty and moments of clarity.
